Colorectal Cancer Screening
Why should you get one?
About Colorectal Screenings
We at Partners in Freedom are dedicated to keeping our patients healthy. For this reason, we are proactively reaching out to patients to discuss colorectal cancer screening.
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the United States. It is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, but it doesn’t have to be. According to the Centers for Disease Control, if everyone aged 50 years or older had regular screening tests, at least 60% of deaths from this cancer could be avoided. Regular colorectal cancer screening is one of the most powerful weapons for preventing colorectal cancer. Screening is the process of looking for cancer or pre-cancer in people who have no symptoms of disease.
Although we are recommending colorectal screening because it has been proven to help prevent deaths from colon cancer, we also firmly believe that this decision is 100% yours to make. Our goal, as your primary care medical home, is to provide you with sufficient information so that you may make your own informed choice. We are asking you to review the shared decision making material we are providing about colorectal screening. You may decide not to have colorectal screening at this time or you may decide to have screening and then proceed to the information regarding which selection is best for you. The choice is yours. After reviewing the material, should you have any questions or concerns, your physician and staff are available to answer your questions.
Because life is very busy, we would like to make the screening process as convenient for you as possible. For those who choose stool testing, we will provide a FIT card (fecal immunochemical test) for you to perform the test at home. All we ask is that you commit to performing the test and returning to us within one week of receiving the card. If you choose to have a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy, we will facilitate the process by scheduling your pre-oscopy appointment visit with the gastroenterologist to be seen right here at our Sea Girt office.
Please review the shared decision information and consider taking action for a colorectal screening.
